All Natural Techniques To Remove Acne From Your Face And Body

by Good Health Guide on October 16, 2008

Many people find it hard to believe that you can suffer with acne at any age and do not have to be a teenager. In actual fact it is probably more common than you thought with ninety percent of the world’s population suffering with acne in one form or another during their lifetime.

Acne Treatment

Acne is the result of clogged hair follicles, caused by the overproduction of sebum, which is from the sebaceous glands but oil alone doesn’t clog pores nor does oily skin necessarily equal acne. It is this oil which is trapped inside the pores which creates the recognizable pimple but this seems to be a more modern condition amongst the population.

Among the many causes of clogged pores are the use of makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes but while acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated. Other factors can be responsible to, like the consumption of too much junk and reprocessed food, which is high in unhealthy sugars.

ClearPores

When people have more stubborn cases of acne it is left to a dermatologist to prescribe a stronger remedy which may require a longer period of use. Once a dermatologist has been consulted then he will check on the effectiveness of the medication on a regular basis and monitor to see whether other treatment is necessary. Cleanliness is important, especially beneath the fingernails where germs and bacteria can be found and infect the already sensitive skin condition by scratching.

Unfortunately just because fingernails look clean does not mean they are, and as bacteria are usually invisible to the naked eye, there is no guarantee that an infection cannot be passed on. It is for this very reason that anyone who suffers with acne should not touch their acne with their bare hands.

Derma Cleanse

Unfortunately, acne does seem to have a hereditary link so if you mother and father had acne ten you will also probably suffer as well, bearing in mind that the number of individuals with perfect skin in the world is very low. Although the likelihood is that you will suffer from acne during your years at school and college.

If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist or qualified physician for acne treatment. Please be aware that the information here is provides as a guide only and does not try to replace the professional guidance supplied by a professional about the condition and treatment of acne.

High Blood Pressure – Can It Be Treated Naturally

by Good Health Guide on October 14, 2008

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is much more common than you may imagine. It’s estimated that approximately 40% of adults in the United KingdomUK and approximately a third of adults in the USA have high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is defined as the pressure which is exerted upon the walls of the arteries as blood flows through them. It is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg) and is usually represented by two numbers.

Systolic pressure is the pressure which is measured whilst the heart beats and blood is being pushed around the body. This is usually the first number given and is the larger of the two numbers.

Diastolic pressure is the pressure measured when the heart is at rest inbetween beats. This is the second number and is the smaller of the two numbers.

So when a doctor or nurse advises you that your blood pressure is “120 over 80”, or you see 120/80 mmHg written in your medical report, it means that your systolic pressure is 120 millimetres of mercury and your diastolic pressure is 80 millimetres of mercury.

High blood pressure is normally defined as having a sustained blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or higher – although this definition can vary in some countries.

Often there are no symptoms of high blood pressure and it can go undetected. It is frequently found during routine medical examination or as a consequence of testing due to some other ailment. It is a significant risk factor in the onset of cardiovascular disease – conditions which may impact upon the circulation of blood around the body, e.g. stroke, heart disease etc.

If you have hypertension, your heart needs to work more to drive the blood around your body. Over time this additional strain can damage your heart. The extra pressure can also damage the walls of the arteries, which may result in a blockage or cause the artery to split – a haemorrhage. Either of these conditions might lead to a stroke.

There is no single identifiable cause for elevated blood pressure in 95% of cases. However, the available evidence shows that, in addition to age, lifestyle factors play a crucial role in determining your blood pressure. Excessive alcohol consumption, bad diet, lack of exercise, smoking and obesity are just some of the known risk factors.

Clearly medication exists which can help reduce your blood pressure – but, as with any medication there may be side effects and there will always be some unlucky patients who do not respond to drugs. Changes to your lifestyle, such as eating a healthier diet, taking regular exercise, reducing your alcohol intake, quitting smoking and losing some weight can be very effective in improving your blood pressure.

Many people might also find meditation, self hypnosis and other relaxation exercises to be effective. In addition to these more traditional methods, recent clinical evidence shows that paced breathing, guided by electronically controlled cues triggered by bio feedback can quickly yield sustainable reductions in blood pressure levels. FDA approved aids such as resperate are now freely available to hypertension sufferers and offer an effective drug free treatment.

In summary, hypertension is more common than you may think and, due to its lack of visible symptoms, you should have your blood pressure measured by a medical professional on a regular basis.

If you do learn that you have high blood pressure then you should be able to improve the situation by making some relatively easy lifestyle changes. Even if you are prescribed medication then the lifestyle modifications will be effective and many will have other health benefits as well.

Natural Anxiety Treatments

by Good Health Guide on October 11, 2008

Anyone who’s experienced an anxiety attack before knows just how terrifying they can be. People who suffer from an anxiety disorder, who have frequent anxiety attacks, also understand how debilitating they can become.

Panic and severe anxiety can result in a disruption of daily life that can lead to a downward spiral of isolation and depression. Modern medicine has created several drugs to control
anxiety disorders and depression. These drugs fall into several categories including MAOI’s
(Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) and SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). SSRI’s such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, and Celexa are the most commonly prescribed.

Anxiety Treatment

While effective in most patients, antidepressant drugs usually come with a cost.
Antidepressants are powerful prescription drugs that cause serious side effects for many people who take them. Common side effects of SSRI’s include nausea, headaches, diarrhea, weight gain, sedation, and sexual side effects.

Antidepressants have even been linked to suicide in young patients. Prolonged usage of antidepressants frequently result in a higher drug tolerance in patients leading to increased dosages to receive the same desired effect. Further, there is a risk of addiction and frequent withdrawal problems associated with these antidepressants.

Anxiety Medications

Fortunately, there are now effective natural anxiety treatment alternatives to antidepressants. They fall into two categories – cognitive behavioral therapy and natural dietary supplements.

Cognitive therapy involves the participation of a psychotherapist or psychiatrist who have one on one sessions with the patient. This approach focuses on changing the patient’s thinking patterns and developing coping mechanisms such as slow breathing techniques. Patients learn how to detect faulty fight-or-flight response mechanisms within the body that are triggered causing anxiety and anxiety attacks.

The second category of natural anxiety treatments are dietary supplements. Natural dietary
supplements offer effective treatment for anxiety and depression without the risk of serious side effects or possible addiction of antidepressants.

Natural herbal treatments have been used for centuries around the globe in many cultures to cure anxiety symptoms. There is now a growing trend towards more natural alternatives to powerful antidepressants. Natural herbs and vitamins can boost one’s overall immune and nervous system creating more resistance to stress. Further, select supplements found in nature can be very effective to treat anxiety and panic attack symptoms.

Treatment For Anxiety

Since dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) caution is recommended in selecting an effective natural anxiety supplement that works for you. Studies show that a combination or ‘blend’ of several anti-anxiety herbs and vitamins offers the most effective treatment results.

Hypertension – Natural Treatment

by Good Health Guide on September 27, 2008

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a serious condition which may lead to other health problems. It is estimated that approximately one third of adult Americans suffer from high blood pressure – but as hypertension has no symptoms it is also estimated that as many as 40% of sufferers arecompletely unaware that they have a problem. Clearly it is sensible to have your blood pressure checked by a medical professional on a regular basis.

There are many very effective drugs available to control blood pressure, but these can have side effects and there will always be some unfortunate sufferers who do not respond to medication. However, there are a number of simple steps which can be taken to lower high blood pressure without the use of drugs and many of these have other health benefits also.

Weight loss is, for many people, the first step in reducing moderate to mild hypertension. Combined with regular aerobic exercise – e.g., jogging, walking – this can be extremely effective. Regular light exercise improves blood flow and helps to reduce both at rest heart rate and blood pressure.

Reducing the amount of sugar contained in your diet will frequently help to reduce high blood pressure.

Another relatively easy dietary modification that has been proven to be highly effective in reducing hypertension is the reduction of the amount of salt ingested. This one measure will be effective for around 60% of hypertension sufferers. There’s no need to have a bland diet – salt substitutes can be used as an effective means of instantly cutting salt intake.

Additional changes to the diet which can be effective in reducing hypertension include the adoption of the DASH diet. This is rich in fruit, vegetables and low fat or fat free dairy foods. It has been shown to be effective based on research carried out in the USA.

Boosting the level of calcium in your diet has the effect of raising dietary potassium which can, in theory, counteract the effect of sodium and act upon the kidney to lower blood pressure.

Quitting smoking has been shown to reduce blood pressure. The precise mechanism is not completely understood but it is known that blood pressure always increases transiently following nicotine consumption. Stopping smoking has many additional health /advantages in addition to reduced hypertension.

Lowering alcohol intake has also been shown to lower blood pressure. As with stopping smoking, it has many other health benefits and should be considered by anyone wanting to improve their health in general.

Lowering stress levels can also benefit many high blood pressure sufferers. Avoidance of stressful situations can be effective. Relaxation therapy and meditation can also help. New devices, e.g. resperate, utilize paced breathing techniques which have been proven to reduce blood pressure if used on a regular basis.

Natural Health Supplements and Vitamins – A buyers Guide

by admin on September 18, 2008

natural health supplements

Because health supplements are so commonly known about these days, more and more information is presented about them, and unfortunately, not all of it has been good. As with all commonly used, high demand products, many products are being improperly used, resulting in bad information about those products.

In order to meet your personal health goals, the bottom line is that you should include a natural vitamin supplement. To keep you from falling victim to the any of the misinformation presented about these, we have a few basic steps to help you make the right choices. This way you can enjoy the benefits of vitamin supplements without risking your health in the process.

These steps are as follows:

The first thing is research. Head to your local natural foods store, pharmacy, or grocery store and check out the different companies offering natural vitamins and supplements. It may help to take a pencil and pad to write down the names so that when you go home you can look them up and see for yourself if the companies are reputable or not. The key here is to buy supplements from the best company to ensure that you get the best quality supplements.

After that, it’s best to start simple and get a natural multivitamin, which will give you all the right doses of the vitamins and minerals you need each day all in one product. While individual vitamins are important later on, the best thing is that you start using the basic multivitamins so that you get their benefits right from the beginning.

Next, it’s time to do some more research to find out which natural vitamins fit your specific needs, bearing in mind your age, gender, activity level, and of course, your individual health needs. Depending on those needs, you might want to add calcium for stronger bones or St. John’s wort for mental health. Now you need to learn about healthy vitamin additions and how much of them you should take.

The best way to go about doing this is to talk to your family doctor. Since the medical field has begun to recognize how important natural vitamin supplements are, your doctor should have information on the latest supplements.

After you’ve done all of this, you will know which brands of natural supplements are best, which vitamins suit your specific needs, and how much of them you should take. The last thing you need to do is to figure out which vitamins you can afford on a monthly basis, but do bear in mind that the multivitamin supplement is the most important, so work up from there.
