What Are The Hazards In Being Bulimic?

by Good Health Guide on September 9, 2009

It is alarming how most people do not see the dangerous and long-term effects bulimia has on a person. Bulimia is an eating disorder wherein the person suffering from it feels a certain need to control and obsess about his or her body image. Physical and mental damages may come as a result of this eating disorder, not to mention the possibility of death in some cases. Why do you think most sufferers seek out a counselor instead of a doctor for their bulimia recovery, it is because the emotional trauma is a lot more painful than the physical effects.

The person suffering from bulimia becomes so obsessed in maintaining his or her weight that often times, he or she result to extreme measures to do this. These measures include throwing up after eating, taking diuretics and laxatives.

Doing these regularly and purposely may cause some serious harm in the body. Eventually, the body can succumb to the following symptoms: sore knuckles from inserting the two fingers in the mouth to forcefully make yourself throw up; bad breath and damaged teeth from the stomach acids coming out; and ulcers as well as heart burn.

There is a very high probability that the person suffering from bulimia may experience depression and the self-esteem would continue to plummet down. Without a proper bulimia recovery program and detection of this eating disorder, the person can do more harm to his or her body in the future.
